A tumblr diversion

So this blog is going to take a side step for a second so that I can bring you something that normally only lands on my tumblr account. I know your thinking what this girl has a theme (I do I promise but right now its only in my crazy head)

May I present to you the #menwHOTweet 2011 Calendar.
On a cold January afternoon what started as a joke to kill time turned into a bet/challenge that ended in pure Photoshop fun. I give you (some of) the wonderful men who try to make everyone’s life/home shine to its fullest potential. If you don’t know them you should. If you do, you should help increase their ego a little more today. Together they can make dreams come true - and they’re not too bad looking either. ;)

Sadly this did not really take me too long and if I really put in some hours it could have looked a lot different. This would not have been possible with out @Alexandrafunfit & @MonderSauce two wonderfully fabulous ladies. Plus we had some great judges (@saxonHenry and @DuQuellaTile).that helped decide who should make this years list (sorry for those that did not take it up with them)
until next time

Finding your Giant in your Dreams

A moment I captured in my State

Shortly after I recovered from the high that is New Years day I learned that someone that influenced my life more then I realized passed away. This man in my mind was a giant.  He fought to protect this planet and keep jobs in America before it was even the "cool" thing to do.  He wanted to be know simple as a "builder". I was told his favorite building blocks were not bricks and mortar, but ideas, people and trees. I have to say, I agree.

Recently I learned that he carried a poem in his planner that he always kept with him. I wanted to share it will all of you, who knows maybe there is a good reason he kept this on him at all times.

 A Psalm Of Life

What The Heart Of The Young Man Said To The Psalmist

Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
    Life is but an empty dream! —
  For the soul is dead that slumbers,
    And things are not what they seem.

  Life is real! Life is earnest!
    And the grave is not its goal;
  Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
    Was not spoken of the soul.

  Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
    Is our destined end or way;
  But to act, that each to-morrow
    Find us farther than to-day.

  Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
    And our hearts, though stout and brave,
  Still, like muffled drums, are beating
    Funeral marches to the grave.

  In the world's broad field of battle,
    In the bivouac of Life,
  Be not like dumb, driven cattle!
    Be a hero in the strife!

  Trust no Future, howe'er pleasant!
    Let the dead Past bury its dead!
  Act, — act in the living Present!
    Heart within, and God o'erhead!

  Lives of great men all remind us
    We can make our lives sublime,
  And, departing, leave behind us
    Footprints on the sands of time;

  Footprints, that perhaps another,
    Sailing o'er life's solemn main,
  A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
    Seeing, shall take heart again.

  Let us, then, be up and doing,
    With a heart for any fate;
  Still achieving, still pursuing,
    Learn to labor and to wait.

This poem was originally published in 1839, but its advice is timeless and encouraging. As we are still adjusting to the new year and we are remembering the past I hope that each tomorrow finds you farther than today. I believe that Longfellow was encouraging all of us to reach for our dreams, but remember that dreams take time so have patience  to let them form. Who knows maybe our dreams will influence others as much as the man that carried this for years did on all that knew him.

Till next time,

If you are curious as to whom I am referring to here is his Bio.

Shooting Stars

So its a new year, how great it that! Congrats to all of us we made it through another year. We may have some bruises and battle wounds, but we made it through another decade! High-five for us.

I think NYE is one of those great moments where everyone in the world experiences the same thing, well maybe just this one little feeling in the pit of there thoughts/stomach (I am positive it has nothing to do with the bubbles of champagne). When the ball drops and the fireworks go off we all hold our breath for that one magical moment when your whole world can change, or better yet we can change.

What is it about the new year that makes us think that everything can change. I personally think that we make our own new years day on whatever day we want, our birthday, a random tuesday. Its just a day right? I mean it doesn't hold any special powers, the universe doesn't automatically reboot and we all get to start over. I mean it took a long time before folks adopted the Gregorian calendar, Venice in 1522 and Thailand in 1941.

But you know, deep down I am a sucker for second chances, do-overs, and even magic. I wish on shooting stars (actually I would if I have ever actually seen a shooting star). Every holiday, solstice, eclipses I hold my breath and hope that something great will happen.  I know that deep down the magic is in all of us (duh I am a child of Disney). That every day we wake up and decide rather or not we make that change that we want in our lives. It takes small steps and sometimes great leaps of faith (or whatever you want to call it).

So as for me I cross my fingers and wish that everything will work out just the way it is supposed to. I hope every day that people will not be angry and treat everything with as much love as possible.  I realize that in order for this to really come true that people have to actually love themselves and treat themselves with as much respect as they wish others would treat them and I questions everyday if that is actually possible. I also hope that I will make the right choices and never look back and just hope that deep down I will always do what is best, it may not be the best choice at the time, but there is this wild and crazy plan that the universe has so one day everything that looks upside down will be right side up.

So as we all look upon this new year with hope here is a toast to you. In the New Year, may your right hand always be stretched out in friendship, never in want.

Oh and maybe just maybe I will see my first shooting star in 2011.

Till next time -
